SIA stands for South Indian Association. As I was creating the logo, my goal was to make one that reflected the culture of South India while, at the same time, represent the fact that it's an RSO at the University of Washington.

 

Research:

The research consisted of a quick online survey with around 20 participants. The participants were to answer two multiple-choice questions: one asking them to pick something that reminded them of south India, and one that reminded them of Seattle.

 

Research Findings:

• People from south India resonated with the Rangoli (patterns created on the floor in living rooms) option.

• People from Seattle related to the Space Needle option.

 

 

Design:

 

The task at hand now was to create a logo that encompassed a rangoli, the space needle, and a perfect font, to tie everything together. I also wanted the logo to have a transparent background that made it possible to fit into other marketing materials like posters and cover photos.
